Whip Plush!

The first prototype has arrived!   He's pictured here with the Prelude hardcover book for scale.  (It's an 8 1/2 by 11 book.)

We're getting a quote from the manufacturer now, and if we can reach the minimum benchmark, I believe we can sell him for less than $45.00

The Whip Plush Kickstarter is coming this July!  Because the world needs all the hugs it can get.

Plush Queries and Saturday Times

Tomorrow's livestream art-party will be here:  https://picarto.tv/Dreamkeepers

Celebrating our first Patreon milestone, the stream kicks off at 1pm EST, and we plan to roll until 5 or longer.   In addition to me doodling, some guests may join us- possibly including Geo, author of the Wayward Astronomer, Riiser of the youtube channel Webcomic Relief, up-and-coming comic artist Superflat psychosis, Starwarriors creator Scott, Readers from the weekly chat, possibly Skidd and Phuufy, and heck!   Who knows.

I'm also streaming some today- shading this week's Prelude update, which will be posted upon completion.

In other news:  We've received a prototype life-size Whip plush!  He's excruciatingly huggable.

Planning to post some photos soon- and we're also planning to launch a Kickstarter this July, so that anybody who wants one has a chance to nab the little blue terror.

Now, we've never done a plush Kickstarter before- we may create some resin figurines as stretch-goal add ons, but what are some other ideas?    We want brainstorms!   If you'd like to share any, post it in the comments below.  8 )

POWER UP

It's official!  Our Patrons annihilated Milestone I:

https://www.patreon.com/Dreamkeepers?ty=h

This can only mean one thing.

PARTY TIME.

We're doing a celebration livestream- taking live sketch requests, answering questions, maybe even having a guest or two pop up if anyone's inclined.

The date:

This Saturday, May 21st, time to-be-announced.

Even if it fluctuates up and down a bit, hitting this milestone means that V5 production is locked down, alongside development for the video game test-level.   Combined with book sales, we're also able to maintain our weekly Prelude schedule- and there's more in the works!

It's an honor creating for all of you- and with the Patrons fueling our efforts, I aim to give it all we've got.   Thank you for making this series come to life.

...I believe this is only the beginning.

FCBD: Taiga Games

 We're back!

And we didn't hit a single deer.

This weekend we hit the road for a pilgrimage to the great wide north, invited by Taiga Games for their Free Comic Book Day event.

Was it worth it?

A thousand times yes!  We got to meet tons of great readers, the fantastic owners of the shop, and enjoy hours of beautiful scenic views on the drive up.

...The moment of appreciating the majesty of nature just before tumbling down a flight of stairs.

And Marquette itself is awesome- the benefits of a thriving town, dropped into the midst of a sterling wilderness setting.   If you're ever in the area, be sure to drop in and visit the stellar people at Taiga Games:  https://www.facebook.com/TaigaGames/

I also enjoyed the chance to chat about retailers, comic book distribution, and float a new concept by the owners...  Something to address the yawning disconnect between comic shops and the growing online community of independent and crowd-funded comic creators.

Struggling to retain customers under a monopolized distribution system, comic shops have had it rough- http://www.comicsbeat.com/retailer-lee-hester-explains-why-his-29-year-old-comcis-shop-is-closing/  It's no secret that stores have been closing over the last couple decades, even as online creators and their readership is reaching new heights.

Well, I think there's a better way forward for everyone- more on that later this spring.

For now, I'm polishing up the last batch of illustrations for the Wayward Astronomer novel release!   Then it'll be time for our website revamp, Volume 5, and the video game...

V4 Review!

Hot of the presses, there's a new review up from the incomparable Fred Patten!

My favorite quote from the writeup:

"There’s a lot of commando action with plenty of bloodshed among cute funny animals..."

He's discovered our formula.

Catch the whole thing here:  http://dogpatch.press/2016/05/04/dreamkeepers-volume-4-descent-to-the-archives/#more-26420

If you find any more reviews, or draft one up yourself, drop me a line and we'll be sure to spread the word.

Market musings

On Chapter 18 of the Wayward Astronomer novel illustrations, and it's so much fun!   Getting ready to send Geo samples.  Thinking ahead as I draw, about getting the Dreamkeepers comic site revamped- and breaking ground on our Quest for Distribution.

The #Comic market has so many entrenched problems- monopolized distribution, underfunded retailers with an atrophied customer base...  Having the internet around certainly hasn't made things easier for them.  But, at the end of the day, everyone wants a thriving comic market.

http://www.comicsbeat.com/retailer-lee-hester-explains-why-his-29-year-old-comcis-shop-is-closing/

#Comic shops can't continue on this trajectory- a fresh, effective approach to help retailers is overdue.   I think there's an incredibly simple idea that might help everyone- publishers, retailers, customers...  Need to develop it a bit.
